Applying Science to Practice

Explore resources designed for parents and adolescents to enhance mental health awareness.

Let’s Talk. Let’s Heal.

Understanding the Body and Brain. Healing the Mind.

Mental health doesn't start in the brain. We need to understand what it is that we are treating and how our physical experiences shape how we interpret and respond to our environment, and therefore shape our mental health.

What exactly does "mental health" mean?

Understand what comprises our nervous system.

Dr. Arasz's objectives and clinical theory are applicable for all ages.

Take the First Step Toward Better Mental Health

It's not easy to make the first call when inquiring about therapy. It's also anxiety provoking to know what to talk about when starting therapy. I try to take that weight off my clients by presenting my own treatment modalities and approach to therapy. I present more educational material at the outset (and throughout our work) that helps my clients decide if my approach is a good fit for them. I've found that by providing a general, yet comprehensive picture of what mental health is and how our bodies and brains are doing exactly what they need to do to protect us (which is too often what gets misinterpreted and misdiagnosed as various disorders) helps clients feel less overwhelmed and less ashamed of the struggles they are experiencing.

Dr. Arasz also teaches students, K-12 grades, and speaks at colleges about anxiety and mental health, specifically with a neurobiological focus on anxiety and mental health.

This approach is significantly different from other mental health education programs in schools, providing a preventative approach that allows students to develop adaptive ways of managing anxiety, and therefore preventing them from becoming traumatized by any potential traumatic experiences. In other words, students are taught to build resiliency before enduring overwhelming psychological stress.

Furthermore, Dr. Arasz is a public speaker for various institutions focusing on Control Theory, anxiety, and trauma. With her revised book, “Why On Earth Do I Feel This Way: Understanding anxiety and mental health through control theory”, Dr. Arasz aims to better equip students, parents, schools, and communities to understand the root of mental health more fully by using her clinical theory as the basis of her work while incorporating a more in-depth neurological application to her theory.

Dr. Arasz continues to advocate for mental health education in schools of all levels. She is in the process of writing another book that aims to connect with kids and help them navigate social stressors, particularly in the academic setting, as well as coauthoring a book for adolescents and pre-teens with Gen Brave books.
